Using burnt materials from a housefire I created this collage to represent resilience and the human ability to mask how we might feel to see us through difficult times. The lines taken from various salvaged burnt books have been stitched together. Sometimes these sentences generated automatically make sense, sometimes it’s nonsense. The collage is mounted on a fragment of a quilt once used for comfort. The piece is encased in salvaged wood. A glass panel is held in place over it. Diamond effect acrylic gems frame the work. Again this echos the superficial nature of a false smile. This woman has been through hell, but she maintains that everything will be OK.
